to my Friday night girls:

"I choose constipation."

"Satan, get thee hence."

"That's bull$#*%."

Let's get together and have another hilarious night of girl talk soon.

whoops

So I never blogged about my trip a few weeks ago. So I'll just let my sister do it for me.

Check it out.

mccain in the beehive state

John McCain, the likely Republican nominee for president, was in Utah on Thursday peddling for campaign cash. Utah's favorite son Mitt Romney was also in tow.

No, I didn't get to meet any of these national political figures. I stood outside, in the freezing cold, with about 15 protesters hoping to catch a glimpse of McCain driving by.

Of course, he took a side entrance and avoided us. So instead, I interviewed a few of the protesters for tomorrow's paper and quickly headed to 7-11 for a hot chocolate. Seriously, it was 60 and warm yesterday and the day I have to spend hours outside it snows and is like 30 degrees out. Awesome.

the old roomies

Tuesday night I hung out with two of my favorite old roommates in the world, Car and Amy. Here's a pic from the good ol' days.

Car now lives in the same complex I did a few years ago in Midvale. She's married now, and we all love her hubby. They dated while we lived with her, so we all got to be good friends. They had an adorable baby named Finn. He's hilarious, and would totally cheese it up when the camera was around.

We're all getting together with some more old friends on Saturday. Good times. I love how everyone lives close to each other again.

you can't stop the beat

I got a new beat at work this week! I've been moved up to cover state politics and the transportation beat. I'll be covering all of the Legislative races in November, which will be quite a handful. But I'm excited, and I'm always up for a change.

happy easter

Kelly made us an awesome Easter dinner today. We had a few friends over, and then decorated Easter eggs.

Beth won the award for most creative egg (AKA UGLY duckling egg)

Heather had way too much fun dipping that egg in the coloring:

Today was a really good day. The dinner and eggs just capped it all off. I sang with the ward choir for our sacrament program. I've been sick the past few weeks, and I can't believe I even sang. By the end of the program, I could barely speak. But it was worth it.

finally...

I'm not sleeping in front of the television anymore. Thank goodness. My room is all painted, and I set everything up. I'm slowly hanging things up on the walls, and it's starting to feel like home.

The move has not been exactly smooth. We still can't figure out how to work the dishwasher (it's one of those you roll over to the kitchen sink, connect, then wash. We can't get it to connect without having it pop off when the water pressure goes bezerk). Then, my bathroom floor all of a sudden was sopping wet. Yes, it's a carpeted bathroom. I figured maybe some bathwater spilled. So I took a blowdryer to the floor and thought I fixed it. The next day the water was back. Finally, the maintenance guy came over and said the washer was leaking. Funny, because we had him come over a while ago to fix that. Guess he didn't properly! Now I've got carpet fans running all day in the basement trying to get rid of the water. I don't know exactly how to get rid of that nasty smell though.

Oy vey.

color

We finally finished the accent wall in my bedroom. This isn't the best shot (it came from a cell phone camera) but you get the idea.

Now, I'm trying to figure out what to do with the other walls. All the walls have those wood pieces coming down the middle (like the ones I painted white on my blue wall). Should I leave them all the same color? Or maybe paint them blue? I need ideas here folks.

home sweet home

Good thing I moved. This is what my old room looks like:

Our old landlord ripped down the old wood paneling, and went to town on the cheap ceiling. Meanwhile, I finished painting my ceiling at the new house and plan on painting the rest of the room this weekend.

Sorry for being a bad blogger. We don't have the Internet here at home (except for the rare occasion that I find a random signal floating through the neighborhood). I'll do some after-the-fact blogs (like my weekend trip to Portland and the beach).

the final countdown

That's right, it's the final countdown. The Legislature is over in about 15 hours. Then, I will be free. And on a plane to Portland for the weekend.

(for those of you non-Arrested Development fans, that pic is of one of the characters who is a magician who dances to Europe's "The Final Countdown" at the beginning of his magic shows).

Two rooms down ...

... three bedrooms, two hallways, two bathrooms and a kitchen to go. Man, when I put it that way I feel like we'll never finish painting. Here's a pic of the living room. We are considering painting one wall a color to match my couch pillows, and we need some window coverings, but other than that I think it looks great. The color totally brightened up the room.

Thanks for all your tips on kitchen options. I think we're leaning toward an orange.
Go big or go home, right?

painting

We started painting the main areas on Sunday. We got rid of the gloomy gray of the living room and brightened it up with an alabaster ceiling and a creamy wall color. Our friends are amazing and helped tape everything and even paint (that last pic is our friend Katie from the ward).

We painted the ceilings in the living room, upstairs hallway and basement. Then we did the wall color in the living room. I'm beat, and we've only completely finished one room (other than touch ups).

Anyone want to come help paint?

moving day

Sorry for the delay, but we don't have the Internet at our new house yet. We got all of our stuff out of the old house, and even got everything out. Clint was a great helper, he even carried my purses and girly hats.

We even got everything unpacked Saturday night (for the most part).
