color S.O.S.

I'm puzzled on what to do with our kitchen. We need to paint the wall, but I have no idea what to do. We've already picked a neutral to go in the living room and hallways, but we want color in the kitchen.

Problem is, this is on the floor:

The kitchen then goes into a dining room area, so it's half linoleum and half carpet. We want the whole room to be the same color.

Any ideas?

colors of the wind

So I'm in the middle of the move, and I'm inspired to do new things with my room. I want a new duvet cover with softer tones. The blaring red just won't do it for me anymore.

I'm thinking I want this blue for the accent wall in my room.

Whaddya think?

p-h-y-l-a-c-t-e-r-y

Definition: a Jewish ritual box
In a sentence: "Billy, put down that phylactery, we're Episcopalian."

I went to the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee tonight with some of my friends. It was a laugh a minute, with the biggest laughs coming when the "vice principle" said the word in a sentence.

Cystitis
Definition: an inflammation of the urinary bladder
In a sentence: "Sally's mother told her that it was her cystitis that made her special."

Now if only I had a magic foot like William Barfee, then I wouldn't have any spelling errors in my articles.

sold!

WE GOT IT!

OK we didn't really buy it, but we are the newest renters of this fine home. It's only a block from the chapel, so it will be nice to walk to church. And it's even closer to downtown than my current house, which is AWESOME. Even better is my friend Heather is moving in with us, so it will be the three of us (remember, I still live with Kelly).

The next few days will be crazy, we've only got a little bit of time to move, but WE DID IT!

destiny

I've found my true calling in life. Yes, I'm moving to Vegas to be a lounge singer. Move over Barry Manilow!

We had a birthday party for my friend Meg at Julianne's house last night. They have a sweet karaoke setup, complete with a stage with wireless mics and a flat screen with the lyrics looking back at you.

We kept on singing for more than five hours. My voice was completely shot by the end of the night (but luckily I was able to sing at choir today). Usually I'm a bit more reserved, but I broke loose and even started head banging while singing. OH YEAH!

The boys didn't get up much. I wonder why! But us girls had a blast.

We even had great fans:

Meg rocked it out with the new version of waving your lighter -- the illuminated cell phone.

My personal favorites of the night: first, Phatty singing "I Touch Myself," and then finding Sean Bunker alone in the karaoke room singing Sisqo's "Thong Song." CLASSIC!

Now I understand why the Japanese love karaoke so much.

ashes to ashes

It's been yet another busy weekend on my social calendar. On Friday, Cap hosted a great party for just the girls. We had a great group together, and we did pretty much every girly thing you could do.

First, we ate, because really, that's what we do best. Then we burned the ashes of our old lovers and told stories. It was very cleansing for a lot of the girls. Definitely something I've never done before, but it was fun.

(And no I will not tell you the names I burned in that little ashes of old lovers jar)

Then, we all watched our favorite love/romantic scenes from movies. I put together a DVD of my favorites. Here's a pic of the menu:

I was a little skeptical about the party at first, but ended up a believer. All girls should do this!

Stay tuned tomorrow for news on my adventures Saturday night. Think Leigh in CABARET!

We have to move out next month. And we haven't found a new place to live.

reunited

... and it feels so good.

I went out to lunch today with my girls from the UVSC days. We're talking 1999-2001. I haven't seen Paula and Lisa in years. It was so fun to catch up, and it was like no time had passed at all. They both have little girls now, and Lisa has a boy on the way.

So in honor of our reunion, I bring you pictures and memories from our days in Happy Valley.

This was our spot, right outside the computer lab. You could always find one of our friends camped out there. That's Lisa to my left in the first picture. I also have fond memories of people watching in the hall of flags with Paula.

It seemed like most every weekend you would find us at a dance at the LDS Institute. Most were just casual, but on occasion we gussied up. Other dances required costumes, and we were always up for that. One dance we all got different colored T-shirts and decorated with tape. Yes, tape. We were the cutest ones at the dance I tell ya.

Lisa and I spent a lot of time at the Institute together as well, with leadership meeting once a week at the crack of dawn as well as our regular religion class.

I met Paula in a computer technology in education course. It was the craziest class I've ever taken. Let's just say we didn't learn much, but we had a lot of fun. We hit it off, and I remember going to a lot of BYU soccer games with her after that.

We had a lot of good times. (The following is the only picture with just the three of us posing together. Problem is, that guy ran in and ruined the adorable pic. Check out my shoe in the bottom left corner, that's all you'll get of me).

I'm glad we're all back in touch! Love ya girls!

warning at the legislature

My cousin Bryce's wife, Camille, paid me a visit at the state Capitol today.

OK, she didn't come to visit me, per say. She was up here with a load of 5th graders for a tour while the Legislature is in session. I can't imagine the chaos she deals with. It was fun to watch her interact with her kids. I told her she seemed like a flight attendant.

democracy in action

I've been spending most of my time here the past month:

The Utah State Legislature is in session until March 5. This is the first year legislators have been back at work at the "people's house" in four years. The building is gorgeous both inside and out. Check out this pic I took of just one section of the rotunda:

I'm having a lot of fun covering all the action up here. It's been really busy, and I'm not getting much sleep, but I'm loving it.

**UPDATE: A few hours after writing this post, I returned home and immediately crawled in bed for a "nap." I slept for four hours. And now it's nearly midnight and I think I can go for another eight.

** UPDATE: SUCCESS! Eight full hours. Boo yeah.

family home evening

I met up with the Warnings for our own little family home evening last night. And no family home evening is complete without FOOD!

I was down in Provo to speak to a class of journalism students at the Y. It was nice to be back at the alma mater.

Luckily, Bryce, Katie and Camille were free so we could get together for dinner. We broke the cardinal Cafe Rio rule and took cheesy pictures inside the restaurant. I had to take one of Bryce as he waited for his credit card to go through. I swear, he broke the machine.

the weekend

I had quite the weekend. Despite working BOTH days, I still managed to escape to Logan and Saratoga Springs and have a ton of fun with my amazing friends.

Friday night I went up to Logan with my friend, Meg, to the Utah State athletic hall of fame banquet. I know what you're thinking. No, I'm not an Aggie fan now. Meg's grandpa used to be the athletic director there, so we drove her grandma up so she could visit with old friends.

I had to get up early the next day to work. Luckily, the newsroom is pretty empty on Saturdays. I even laid down on my cubicle floor to do my stretches (notice the pink stick -- I killed our fake pink flamingo to have a stick to stretch with).

After work I booked it down south to Saratoga Springs. Caprene's family always throws a big party for Chinese New Year. We enjoyed yummy Chinese food (salad, wontons, lo mein ... seriously, a LOT of food) and competed in an all night mah jong tournament.

I didn't do so well at mah jong. I always thought it was just a matching game on the computer. Apparently I was wrong. It's a complicated game, but it was really fun.

Oh and we were rebellious and put on tattoos to celebrate the holiday.

lip answers

Dad's cheesy grin is on the top left, followed by Uncle Dave's pearly whites, my viva glam lips, Betsy's smackers, Becca's mug and Andrew's five o'clock shadow chin.

Thanks to all who played!

the abc's

I got tagged. Enjoy useless information about me:

A: Attached or single: single... gosh don't rub it in

B: Best Friend: Betsy and Arron

C: Cake or Pie: Chocolate Cream Pie takes the cake, although I do like to indulge in a little cherry pie every now and then.

D: Day of Choice: Sunday. I never have to work and typically hang out with friends at night with good food and great card games.

E: Essential Item: my Mac. Sadly I'm on it all day, even after work.

F: Favorite Color: Red. I know, I'm a Cougar, but red is just so cute. I'm also a huge fan of green.

G: Gummi Bears or Worms: bears. Better yet, CHOCOLATE covered cinnamon bears. They are heaven.

H: Hometown: Portland

I: Indulgence(s): a hot bath with a good book, Pee Wee's playhouse, Apple Beer and cookies.

J: January or July: July. I hate shoveling inches of snow off my driveway every day in January. On the flip side, I love driving with my windows down in sunny July.

K: Kids: seriously? I'll claim dad as my kid. And probably Betsy and Andrew too.

L: Life is incomplete without: the fam

M: Marriage Date: keep rubbing it in. Eventually, I hope.

N: Number of Siblings: 3 ... two sisters and a brother

T: Tag Six: I kindly refuse to tag, since most people I know have already been tagged

U: Unknown Fact About Me: Like Betsy, I'm pretty much an open book so I don't know what to say here. Oh I used to lie to everyone growing up and said that a shark bit me while surfing in California. That's how I explained the big ugly scar on my right leg. In high school I finally fessed up and said that really I slammed into a sliding glass door.

V: Vegetarian or Oppressor of Animal: I oppress animals. And like it.

W: Worst Habit: biting my nails

X: X-Rays or Ultrasounds: I think ultra-sounds might be cool, but since I've never had one and I've had tons of X-rays, I go for X RAY! Better yet, can I pick MRI?

Y: Your Favorite Food: Mexican

Z: Zodiac: Virgo

those lips

I'm a winner. Yes, really.

I won the "name those lips" contest at the ward valentine's day dinner tonight. I correctly identified ten different sets of lips of guys in my ward. The prize? A $15 gift certificate. Awesome.

So, in honor of my big win, I present my own lip contest. Name these family lips.
