color S.O.S.

I'm puzzled on what to do with our kitchen. We need to paint the wall, but I have no idea what to do. We've already picked a neutral to go in the living room and hallways, but we want color in the kitchen.

Problem is, this is on the floor:

The kitchen then goes into a dining room area, so it's half linoleum and half carpet. We want the whole room to be the same color.

Any ideas?

That floor is, um... interesting... 70's? Maybe a light yellow would be nice?

By the way, I'd like to know what "pain the wall" will look like.... did you learn anything at Spelling Bee? Spelling the wrong word right doesn't count either.

I think an orange, terracotta color would be good. Go to Sherwin Williams online and check out Determined Orange.

an almost blue-grey feel might pull out the darker tones in the tile. Grab a couple swatches and find one that compliments the yellow and orange and matches the tone in the dark outlines.

Or I'd do a really poppy yellow - bright. Otherwise it will be too baby yellow. And my Pottery Barn catalog is telling me citrus yellows are in this season.

A chocolate brown might be good....but maybe too dark for the cabinets. Good luck with that. I would invest in some new cabinet knobs. That would class it up a bit. Maybe paint the cabinets if that is allowed.

If I were you, I would spend a dime of my own money until they do something about the floor! What's the point! It looks fine with white.

yo amy, the beauty of it all is the landlord is paying for paint!

Yellow/gold is really in right now. Actually, two of my SILS have painted their kitchens in that color (not the whole thing, just a couple walls) and it looks really cool!

I would not paint the entire thing in that one color. I'd paint like two walls yellow/gold, the other two I'd do a brown to highlight the color that is already in that tile.

Yeah, the tile's old, but not awful...with the right colors, it could look like a pretty chic mid-century style!
